The 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations (SJ50)

2016 marks 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations. The official logo for the 50th anniversary of Singapore-Japan diplomatic relations has been selected on 18th September 2015 through public competition which was conducted from 8 June 2015 to 10 July 2015 with 80 entries. This logo will be used for the events related to the 50th anniversary of Singapore-Japan diplomatic relations in 2016.

The Executive Committee of the 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations invites applications from organisers whose event is in line with the 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations (SJ50) .They will be entitled to use the title "The 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations (SJ50)" with the official logo mark on PR materials. The details of the approval criteria and the application process can be found here. As for the approved projects, you may refer to the table below.

We have reached a grand total of over two hundred SJ50 Projects, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Singapore and Japan.

December JAPAN by Japan Singapore JNTOWe have launched a Japan centric community site for Singaporeans. Based on preferences and interests indicated during registration, we will present attractions and latest updates customized to each member.
Exchange and interaction is also encouraged amongst members to increase the motivation and desire to Japan.
In Singapore where travel personalization and needs segmentation are advanced, increased repeat visits to Japan can be achieved by enhancing the satisfaction levels of visitors who are interested in learning more about Japan.
1 December SG-JP Music Mix 2016 -SJ50 Special Edition- Republic Polytechnic SG-JP Music Mix Committee As part of the SJ-JP Music Mix 2016 project, SG-JP Music Mix Committee held a Gagaku workshop, conducted by Mr. Hideki Togi, a guest artiste from Japan and renowned Gagaku musician for 100 students of Republic Polytechnic. Mr Togi's 90 minutes workshop had inspired young Singaporean minds and the students had enjoyed learning Japanese history, traditional culture and the Japanese spirit through the world of Gagaku – the Japanese imperial court music.

Channel NewsAsia presents its first ever outdoor musical event in celebration of Singapore and Japan’s 50 years of friendship this year. “A Beautiful Life Musical Fiesta” gathered over 45 performers between the ages of 7 – 92 years old, to present a series of Japanese musical performances, and brought a touch of Japan to all in Singapore. A 6000 strong crowd enjoyed music and dance entertainment items from HIBIKIYA performance group in Singapore, featuring Taiko drums, masked dances, lion dances and Japanese music ensemble performances. The event culminated with a grand performance by superstar granny idols from Kohama Island in Okinawa - KBG84. With an average age of 84, KBG84 performed a repertoire of 5 songs, uniting the audience in song and dance in their first ever concert out of Japan.

They will be guiding experienced koto learners in these scores: "Taka" by Tadao Sawai, "Ginyuuka" by Hikaru Sawai and "Henkyoku Nagauta Echigo Jishi" by Seihou Nomura. Those who are first-time learners may observe the session, and try playing te koto from 14:30 - 15:00 with the help of experienced koto learners.

The concert was a special collaboration comprising newly arranged Singapore songs that are blended with Japanese traditional music and instruments as well as newly arranged Japanese songs that are blended with Singapore modern multicultural music. SG-JP Music Mix 2016 is a special edition concert held in conjunction with SJ50.

The workshop conducted by Tomomi Nitta for 10 students majoring Painting at School of The Arts as a related event with the exhibition "Hanging Gardens" at JCC. The artist lectured and demonstrated the oil painting technique, using absorbent primed surface and cristal powder, the pigments used for traditional Japanese paintings. Each students created a painting, using those techniques.

Kirie is a traditional art technique, where paper is finely cut with an art knife. In commemoration of SJ50, a series of the artist’s selected works will be on display at The Arts House. Two Kenadama professional players from the Japan Kendama Association will be invited as well. Through harnessing the popularity of the Kendama in Singapore, we aim to facilitate cultural exchange and thereby strengthen the relationship between Singapore and Japan.

Chingay ParadeThe Japanese Association, SingaporeThe Japanese Association, Singapore will be participating in the Chingay Parade at the F1 pit on 19 and 20 Feb. This year’s song and dance features an Awaodori team, which will be performed by a 400-strong contingent.
The Association participates in the parade annually as part of our interaction with the local community, and we are proud to announce that this year is our 14th consecutive year of participation in Singapore’s largest festival parade. The parade considered the largest in Asia and is covered even by foreign media. The float is decorated with the SJ50 logo in celebration of 50 years of bilateral relationships between Singapore and Japan this year.

It is also an area of great clinical interest as there are tremendous opportunities for clinical translation in terms of tissue repair as well as eradication of cancer. The symposium “New Horizons in Normal and Cancer Stem Cell Research” focusing on the hematopoietic and cancer stem cell research is jointly organized by the JSPS and CSI/NUS. This symposium aims to foster exchange of scientific ideas and facilitate collaborations in stem cell research between Japan and Singapore scientists.

Sunstar Foundation & Joslin Diabetes Center affiliated with the Harvard Medical School419 professionals including doctors, dentists, nutritionists, pharmacists, nurses, dental hygienists, and researchers gathered from across Asia to Singapore which has the second-highest proportion of diabetics among developed nations.
Focusing on the latest cutting-edge research on oral and systemic health, the “Diabetes, Oral Health & Nutrition” seminar was held to exchange scientific findings on the inter-relationships between diabetes and periodontitis and possible prevention, treatment and cure of these disease burdens. There is a high association between diabetes and periodontal disease. Treatment of periodontal disease may also have the potential to affect blood glucose control and contribute to the progression of diabetes. Healthy diet and lifestyle also affects them. Diabetes can be a terrifying disease because if left untreated, it can lead to blindness, the need for artificial dialysis or an amputation due to various complications, which also includes periodontal disease.

The theme for the Japanese Cultural Festival (JCF) 2016 is 和 ‘harmony’, reflecting our desire for JCF to be a point where students, members of the public, and organizations may meet, mingle, and share their knowledge and love for Japanese culture. In this two-day event, booths are divided into four different experience zones: 四季 (The Four Seasons), 和紙 (Traditional Crafts), 嗜好(Past-times), 現代 (Modern Age), covering different prominent areas of Japanese culture. Participants may try out activities ranging from traditional Japanese crafts and games, to modern-day hobbies such as karaoke. The Japanese Cultural Festival culminates in the Japanese Cultural Night (JCN), a finale concert on the second day of JCF, which showcases the different performing arts in Japan such as Buyo, Koto as well as Japanese pop music.
