From Tuesday, 14th June 2016 to Saturday, 25th June 2016 we held an exhibition of artworks by Singaporean landscape artists, Ms Susie Wong and Ms Adeleine Daysor. The exhibition entitled, ‘GORAIKO ご来光’ featured natural scenes from Northern Japan, such as the majestic Mount Fuji. |
Ms Susie Wong began her craft in fine arts and curatorial projects since the late 1980’s. Her works comprises of figurative paintings, drawings, installation, time based works in mixed media and video installations. Currently, Susie centres in photography that aids her legacy. Susie’s works has been shown in many local exhibitions including The Substation, The Esplanade, Space Cottonseed and Gillman Barracks.

Ms Adeleine Daysor is fascinated with myths and the unique nature of ‘things’. Inspired by her natural surroundings, she expresses her works through paintings, objects and site-responsive installations. Thus far, the Adeleine has participated in many artist residencies in Singapore and Japan. Her works has been exhibited in countries such as the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Guatemala, USA and the UK.

An opening ceremony was held on the evening of 14th June to celebrate the exhibition. JCC Director Ms Misako Ito gave a welcoming speech to express her appreciation to the artists. The ceremony saw over 60 guests who were already fond of works by Adeleine and Susie. Speaking after Director Ito, the two artists thanked the audience for their utmost support and further shared their love for Japan, which inspired the exhibition.
Held in conjunction with SJ50, the exhibition gave recognition to Singaporean artists who developed their artistry with a passion for Japan and her culture. The two week exhibition has received positive response from the public and many are eager to capture their own travels through art.
