On 5th October 2016, Wednesday, JCC had the pleasure to host the opening ceremony of Flower x Pottery Exhibition. This exhibition showcases the collaborative works by flower artist Mr Dan Takeda, and potter and architect Mr Takanao Todo. |
Currently running his own company, DAN TAKEDA FLOWER & DESIGN PTE LTD., in Singapore since 2008, Mr Dan Takeda has created flower displays for many well-known brands, such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Dior. Some of his creative works include using flowers in fashion for Female magazine, and decorating One Raffles Place with 1,000 stalks of gerberas for a “Floating Garden” display.

Mr Takanao Todo moved to U.K. at the age of 15. He was diagnosed with mild dyslexia, and was the first Japanese to come out about it. After doing so, he started to support the non-profit organization EDGE since 2000 through workshops and lectures. In 2008, he graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture, and achieved RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architecture) Part2. After working and training in London, Munich, Paris and Tokyo, he is currently working with DP Architects in Singapore.

JCC Director Ms Misako Ito welcomed the two Japanese artists to our centre, alongside with the many guests especially from the arts and culture field who graced the ceremony. Mr Dan Takeda put up a live demonstration to showcase the art of flower arrangement which integrated both the spirits of traditional Japanese Ikebana culture and contemporary art. Together with Mr Takanao Todo, the exhibition aimed to showcase the crossing and interaction of two unique talents through flowers and potteries, just like timber work supporting a pitched roof.
