Japan Exchange & Teaching (JET) Programme Information Session 2016

Mr Kawabata Masanori from the Embassy of Japan, welcoming the audience.
An informative session on the Japan Exchange & Teaching (JET) Programme was conducted on Friday, 30th September at the Japan Creative Centre (JCC) with a full house. Providing an opportunity for foreigners to teach in Japan, the JET programme was started in 1987 with the purpose of increasing mutual understanding between the people of Japan and other nations. It aims to promote internationalisation in Japan’s local communities by helping to improve foreign language education, and developing international exchange at the community level.

Representatives from the Embassy of Japan in Singapore and CLAIR Singapore provided useful information about the outline of the JET Program and the application process.

Together with members of JET Alumni Association (JETAA) Singapore and former JET participants, the audience was enlightened by the interesting and varied experiences shared by the former participants who have been through both types positions: ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) and CIR (Coordinator for International Relations).

Specifically, Mr Heng Kaile shared about his ALT experience teaching at junior high school level, Ms Tee Lineng presented about her ALT experience teaching at high school level, and Mr Kennard Xu spoke about his experience as a CIR. At the end of the session, the audience also had the opportunity to interact with the presenters and former participants to clarify any questions they might have about the JET programme.
