On Saturday, 8th October 2016 the Singapore Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme (SSEAYP) Day 2016 was held at *SCAPE. SSEAYP was established in 1974 and this year marks 43rd year.
The youth exchange programme is sponsored by the Japanese Government and supported by ASEAN member states. Participating countries include Japan as well as ASEAN countries. The objectives of SSEAYP are to promote friendship and mutual understanding among the youth of ASEAN and Japan, to broaden their international outlook, to cultivate the spirit of international cooperation and to nurture the next generation of leaders in an international platform. |
SSEAYP Day 2016 featured an exhibition of 9 ex-Singapore Participating Youths (ex-SPYs) and was graced by Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence & Ministry of Foreign Affairs, & Mayor, South East District, Mr Naohiro Tsutsumi, Charge d’ Affaires ad interim, Japan Embassy in Singapore, and Mr Gerald Tang, PBM, President, SSEAYP International Singapore (SIS) as part of the SJ50 festivities.

Recognising the significant contributions of the ex-SPYs, Mr Naohiro Tsutsumi gave an inspirational speech regarding the close cooperation and relationship between ASEAN member states, including Singapore and Japan, through SSEAYP. The distinguished guests saw the launch of 'SIS プレッジ Pureji Pledge Tree of Hope’, pledges that SSEAYP gathers to raise fund for their programmes next year.
