JCC Cinema 45: Fukushima Hula Girls

© Fukushima Hula Girls Production Committee Our monthly JCC Cinema was held on Saturday, 2nd April 2016 at the multipurpose hall of Japan Creative Centre (JCC). Commemorating the 5th Anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami tragedy, an uplifting documentary ‘Fukushima Hula Girls’ was screened for the audience.

The documentary was created after a devastating earthquake struck Iwaki City, Fukushima, Japan on 11th March 2011. The city is the home to the 'Hula Girls' dance troupe of a beautiful hotel resort 'Spa Resorts Hawaiians'. Post-tragedy, residents and the 'Hula Girls' initiated to reconstruct their beloved hometown, undeterred by the struggles of everyday life.

The screening saw an attendance of over 60 guests and despite the technical issue half way through the movie, many were affected and touched by the efforts of the locals. We shall inform the public on the re-screening of the movie once the technical issue is solved.
