Nihon Buyo - Traditional Japanese Dance Performance by Reitokukai and Akifusaryu was held at JCC (Japan Creative Centre) on Saturday, 30th July 2016 in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Singapore and Japan (SJ50). The event had an amazing turnout with all seats filled and received great applauses from the audiences.

In this remarkable year, the young disciplines of both Reitokukai and Akifusaryu from Singapore and Japan have collaborated and underwent an exchange programme, where they travelled to one another’s country and learned from each other through Nihon Buyo.

Together with their Masters, Mr Naya Reitoku and Mr Guraku Akifusa, the young disciplines – consisting of 8 dancers from Singapore and 5 from Japan – have showcased the fruit of their exchange programme and performed a total of 11 congratulatory dances (祝儀) at JCC.

In particular, a finale dance dedicated especially to SJ50 and the friendship between Singapore and Japan was presented by both Masters and all the disciplines towards the end of the event.

Mr Guraku Akifusa started to learn Nihon Buyo from his mother at the age of 5 years old. He received his master title as Wakayagiryu when he was 25 years old, after which he further developed his own style of Nihon Buyo in 1999, which is now called “Akifusaryu”.

Mr Naya Reitoku started learning in 1988 at the Japanese Cultural Society, Singapore under the tutelage of Ms Hanayagi Jusetsuga. He received the teaching license and the stage name "Naya Reitoku" from Ms Hanayagi Momonosato in 1994 and established the Reitokukai Japanese Dance Group in 1996.
