Japan Creative Centre (JCC) offers many programs to showcase Japan's creativity in anime/manga, fashion, design, art, architecture, science and technology as well as traditional culture. For further information, please visit JCC website.

Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarships

Five categories of Monbukagakusho Scholarships are available from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) for eligible Singaporean citizens.

Programmes taught in English

Many Japanese universities offer English-taught degree programmes at both undergraduate and graduate level. Below is an non-exhaustive list of English programmes from some Japanese national and private universities
 

Asia Kakehashi Project 2026

Asia Kakehashi Project +by MEXT, Japan (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) 2026 is open. This Japanese government-sponsored program aims to heighten interest in Japan by promoting Bridge Building between high school students of Japan and Asia.

Eligibility: 
Applicants to the program in 2026 must meet the following criteria:
  •  Between 15 and 18 years of age, born after April 2, 2008 and before April 1, 2011;
  •  Legal Citizen (nationality) of Singapore.
  •  Obtained a minimum of 60% marks in principle in all subjects in the latest examination at school and overall minimum average of 60% marks in all subjects for the past two years;
  •  Learners of Japanese. Participants for the Japanese speech contests are encouraged to apply and have priority for the selection.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership potential to act as a bridge between the home country and Japan during and after the program.
  •  Should not have participated in the ASIA KAKEHASHI program before.
  •  Priority will be given to students of families with low incomes.
  • Program Duration: August 2026 - December 2026 (The duration of the program is subject to change.)
Pre-application form

Important note: While participating in this programme you are not permitted to sit any Singapore National High School exams.  This means that you are not permitted to return home to sit the exams nor are you allowed to sit them remotely while in Japan.Please can you confirm that you understand the rules regarding this policy prior to submitting your application and acknowledge that in submitting your application you hereby agree to abide by the policy.

Last date to fill the Pre-Application form: 13 March 2026
Please note that it would be mandatory to fill this form in case you wish to apply or go to the next step for participation in the program.
The secretariat of AFS will inform the result by the end of March (by email).

Japan Foundation Grant

The Japan Foundation offers grants for arts-related exchanges, Japanese language education, Japanese Studies research, etc.

JET (Exchange) Programme

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) programme aims to enhance foreign language education and promote international exchange between Japanese youths and foreign youths. Participants are placed in public schools in Japan to teach English.

Useful Info on Studying in Japan

Our Student Advisor, Mr. Ong Kong Leong, provides free student counselling for people interested to study in Japan.

Student counselling service will be conducted via WhatsApp at 97540104, from September 2021.

Students or parents may send their questions directly to Mr Ong during his counselling hours. Counselling sessions are based on a first come first served basis. No appointment is required.

The "Pre-arrival Admission" is a system to enable international students outside of Japan to secure admission to the higher educational institutions in Japan without having to go to Japan.

(2) Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU)

 
The Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) is used to evaluate whether international students who wish to study at the undergraduate level at universities or other such higher educational institutions in Japan possess the Japanese language skills and the basic academic abilities needed to study at those institutions.
