Ceramic Expressions

Overview

September began on a memorable note with 'Ceramic Expressions', a sublime ceramic exhibition which showcased works by Singapore-based ceramicists Agnes Lim, Eddie Yee, Hazel Ng, Hiroko Mita, Tan Gek Lin and guest artist, master potter Dr Iskandar Jalil. It was also a festive month for our JCC Cinema screenings as well, with a total of three different film screenings. And in case you missed out on our latest JCC Cinema, we will be showing 'Kamome Diner', a film that celebrates friendship between Japan and Finland, one more time this Saturday at Shaw Theatres!

The month of October was opened with the beautiful exhibition by Ikebana International Singapore chapter 135, which sought to trace the graceful art of Japanese flower arrangement back to the basic yet refined concepts. We have numerous JCC events planned for the rest of the month, including a calligraphy exhibition at the Luxe Art Museum, as well as calligraphy workshops at JCC, Our Tampines Hub, and Chua Chu Kang Community Club. With such a diverse array of upcoming events, each highlighting a different side of Japanese culture, we hope that there will be something for everyone!

Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite-2 (GOSAT-2) ~Taking over from IBUKI to enhance the functionality and performance of greenhouse gas observations~

perts say that greenhouse gases produced by human activity represent one of the biggest causes of global warming. The Intragovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), an international organization of specialists that conducts scientific research on climate change and evaluates related climate policies, released its Fifth Assessment Report in 2013. In the document, the authors warned that “Warming of the climate system is unequivocal... It is extremely likely that human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century... Continued emissions of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and changes in all components of the climate system.” GOSAT-2 is scheduled to launch in 2018.
