Japan Creative Centre (JCC), Embassy of Japan in Singapore, had the pleasure to host the opening ceremony of Ceramic Expressions, an exhibition series showcasing works by Singapore-based ceramicists, on 6th September 2017. This exhibition is co-organised with Mulan Gallery, and features exquisite new works by Agnes Lim, Eddie Yee, Hazel Ng, Hiroko Mita, Tan Gek Lin, as well as guest artist and Master Potter Dr Iskandar Jalil.
|
The opening ceremony began with a welcome speech by Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr Naohiro Tsutsumi. He sincerely thanked the artists for introducing the “wabi-sabi” or beauty in scarcity and simplicity in this region through pottery, and hoped for it to be further nurtured by more ceramicists.
This was followed by Ms Patricia Liang’s welcome remarks, Managing Director of Mulan Gallery. She then proceeded to introduce all of the artists to the many distinguished guests from the arts and culture field, including Ms Chng Seok Tin, Cultural Medallion Recipient 2005, and Ms Chong Siak Ching, CEO of National Gallery Singapore.
