JCC welcomed the new year with the Toyama Art and Glass Exhibition in Singapore ~ The Spirit of TOYAMA Glass ~. Many guests were intrigued by the numerous unique glassware creations as well as the Artist Networking Session. We were also glad to have the artists present more about their works and experience to the students at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).
In February, do join us for a seminar which showcases the best of Matsue, a quaint castle town found in Shimane Prefecture, Sanin area! Do keep an eye out for other upcoming events too!

JCC had a good start to the Year 2020, and we hope that it was the same for all our Friends of JCC as well. It was nice to see many families and friends gather for the first JCC Cinema screening of the year at Woodlands Regional Library.

SSEAYP Welcome Reception
On 11 January, a welcome back reception for the 46th batch of the SSEAYP (Ship For Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme) Singapore Contingent Participating Youths (PYs) was held at Japan Creative Center (JCC). Japanese Cultural Workshop for SSEAYP Participating Youths
On 11 January 2020, a washi origami workshop was held for the returning youths who participated in the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme (SSEAYP). Lecturer Ms Tan Shu Ying gave the youths an introduction to what washi is, and how it can be used to create various items such as accessories, clothes, and household objects. JCC Cinema 80: A Silent Voice
Our JCC Cinema 80: A Silent Voice was screened at Woodlands Regional Library’s Auditorium on Saturday, 18 January. The event was introduced by Mr Xavier Lim of the library and he touched on the many offerings of books and media related to Japan that are available for loan. Sapporo Snow Festival
The northernmost of Japan's four main islands is called Hokkaido. There, Japan's biggest snow festival is held in the city of Sapporo, famous for hosting the 1972 Winter Olympics. At the 2011 Sapporo Snow Festival, held from February 7 to 13, 164 snow and 88 ice sculptures were constructed in three locations, the main setting being the narrow, 1.5-kilometer (0.9-mile)-long Odori Park built alongside a big avenue running through the city's center.
