Farewell Reception for JET Participants in 2017

On Friday, 21st July 2017, a farewell reception was held for the new Singaporean participants of the Japan Exchange Teaching Programme (JET) at the Japanese Association, Singapore (JAS). The reception was attended by members of the JET Alumni Association, Japanese University Graduates Association of Singapore (JUGAS), the Japanese Cultural Society (JCS), executives from JAS, The Japan Council of Local Authorities for International Relations Singapore (J.CLAIR Singapore) and faculty of The Japanese School Singapore.

In his speech at the reception, H.E. Ambassador Kenji Shinoda emphasized the importance of the roles of the JET participants and the local governments of Japan. He shared his hope for a continuous friendly relation between Japan and Singapore, where the new JET participants will be a bridge by contributing to the cultural aspect of the two countries, just as their predecessors.

The 38 new participants of the JET programme from Singapore will be posted to 31 local governments of Japan as Assistant Language Teachers (ALT) and Coordinators for International Relations (CIR). This year’s batch of new JET participants from Singapore is the largest one since the first Singaporean was dispatched in 1999. 345 Singaporeans have benefited from this programme so far.
