Farewell Reception for JET Participants in 2016

On Thursday, 28th July 2016, a farewell reception was held for the new Singaporean participants of the Japan Exchange Teaching Programme (JET) at the Japanese Association, Singapore (JAS). The reception was attended by members of the JET Alumni Association, Japanese University Graduates Association of Singapore (JUGAS), executives from JAS, The Japan Council of Local Authorities for International Relations Singapore (CLAIR Singapore) and faculty of The Japanese School Singapore.
In his speech during the reception, H.E. Ambassador Kenji Shinoda emphasised on the importance of the role of JET participants and the local governments of Japan. He shared his hope to have continuous friendly relations between Japan and Singapore, where the new JET participants will be a bridge by contributing to the cultural aspect of the two countries, just as their predecessors. The Ambassador also mentioned about his excitement of sending off the new batch especially in this special year, where the two nations celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Singapore-Japan Diplomatic Relations (SJ50) and the 30th Anniversary of the JET Programme.
The 25 new participants of the JET programme from Singapore will be posted to 20 local governments of Japan as Assistant Language Teachers (ALT) and Coordinators for International Relations (CIR). The number of cumulative Singaporean participants of the JET Programme has reached more than 300 this year.
