Capturing Water Conservation Through the Lens ~ A Photography Exhibition on Water Conservation in Singapore ~

Overview

JCC was brimming with activity in the month of June. Besides being able to savour the bittersweet harmony of Japanese hand drip coffee and wagashi, guests also had the opportunity to learn more about Japan's Investment in Singapore, as well as the traditions of Souami Ryu in Ikebana.

Moreover, there is an ongoing photography exhibition about water conservation in Singapore at Royal Plaza on Scotts Singapore till end August, which is jointly presented by JCC, SSEAYP International Singapore (SIS) and PUB Singapore national water agency. It showcases the winning works received from 4 different categories of the Capturing Water Conservation Through the Lens Photo Contest, so do visit and take a look!

In the month of June, JCC presented several programmes that appealed to both young and the young-at-heart for a fulfilling holiday! Early in the month, JCC presented “Bittersweet Harmony ~ Japanese Hand Drip Coffee & Wagashi Demonstration by the Okada Coffee and Sweets Team ~”. JCC Cinema 72: Doraemon the Movie 2018: Nobita’s Treasure Island

On Saturday, 15 June 2019, JCC organised a JCC Cinema session at Our Tampines Hub. The film “Doraemon the Movie 2018” was screened to a full theatre filled with families, friends, and fans of Doraemon. All audience members delighted in the action and excitement in the film, and the heart-warming scenes of friendship and fatherly love. The Ikebana Spirit of Souami Ryu ~ A workshop by Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 ~

On 26 June 2019, Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 organised a workshop titled “The Spirit of Ikebana in Souami Ryu” at Japan Creative Centre. Led by instructor Ms Midori Itai, participants were given a rare chance to learn about the Souami style of Ikebana. Visit by The Japan Foundation

JCC (Japan Creative Centre) had visitors from The Japan Foundation 国際交流基金, who were in Singapore for the opening of the exhibition, "Awakenings: Art in Society in Asia 1960s–1990s." at National Gallery Singapore. The Japan Foundation has co-organized the exhibition with the National Gallery Singapore, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. Marine Day

The third Monday in July (originally July 20) is Marine Day. It was observed for the first time in 1996, after being declared a national holiday a year earlier. Japan now has 16 annual holidays.
