Opening Ceremony of Japanese Film Festival Singapore 2020

Overview

Despite a difficult year, we were glad to end off 2020 with a resounding note. It was wonderful to see everyone again at both the exhibition “The Beauty of Ise Shima Akoya Pearl ~ The Grand Prix of Akoya Pearl Jewellery 2020 Singapore Edition ~” and the Japanese Film Festival Singapore 2020. We hope that through these two events, you were able to enjoy a taste of Japan and Japanese culture once again.

As we enter a new year, JCC will continue to present different angles of Japan and Japanese in a safe and secure manner. Do stay tuned to our updates on our Facebook and Instagram!

Happy New Year! 新年あけましておめでとうございます。

December was a memorable month for us. After putting physical activities on hold for almost half a year, we were able to return with two very exciting events. At JCC, we were able to welcome guests again at “The Beauty of Ise Shima Akoya Pearl ~ The Grand Prix of Akoya Pearl Jewellery 2020 Singapore Edition ~”. It was heartening to see new visitors and familiar faces visiting the exhibition to learn more about Akoya Pearls. We were also very encouraged to know see guests participating in the online talks organised as part of the exhibition. Talk on Pearl Cultivation and Pearl Grades

Japan Creative Centre (JCC) held two online talks on 9 and 19 December 2020 respectively regarding pearl cultivation and grades, with Ms Maiko Makito from Pearl Falco as the speaker. Opening Ceremony of Japanese Film Festival Singapore 2020

Japanese Film Festival Singapore 2020 was opened at Shaw Theatres Lido on Thursday, 10 December 2020. The movie Bento Harassment, a funny yet heartwarming and touching film directed by Tsukamoto Rempei was the opening film. H.E. Coming-of-Age Day

The second Monday of January is Coming-of-Age Day, a national holiday to encourage those who have newly entered adulthood to become self-reliant members of society.

Municipal governments host special coming-of-age ceremonies for 20-year-olds, since an "adult" in Japan is legally defined as one who is 20 or over.
