Happy New Year! 新年あけましておめでとうございます。
December was a memorable month for us. After putting physical activities on hold for almost half a year, we were able to return with two very exciting events. At JCC, we were able to welcome guests again at “The Beauty of Ise Shima Akoya Pearl ~ The Grand Prix of Akoya Pearl Jewellery 2020 Singapore Edition ~”. It was heartening to see new visitors and familiar faces visiting the exhibition to learn more about Akoya Pearls. We were also very encouraged to know see guests participating in the online talks organised as part of the exhibition. Once again, I would also like to congratulate all the winners of the competition that happened during the exhibition!
This hybrid format was also adopted for the Japanese Film Festival Singapore 2020. Films were available both in theatres and online, giving viewers the opportunity to watch films from the comfort of their own home. This year, we were also able to present online Q&A sessions with four different film directors. Though this format is new and unfamiliar to many, we are still glad to see so many participating in these talks and asking many questions. It is my hope that these events have helped foster a greater understanding of Japan in the viewers, despite not being able to travel there.
Following the success of the hybrid format of events we had in December, we hope that we will be able to bring you more exciting programmes in 2021. To keep up with JCC and the Embassy of Japan’s activities in the New Year, do follow us on our Facebook pages. Follow us as well on our Instagram page (@japancreativecentre). Do look forward to more interesting articles about Japan and Japanese culture!
Once again, I would like to wish all our Friends of JCC a Happy New Year, and I hope to see you all again soon at JCC! We look forward to your strong support this year as well.
