Japan Creative Centre welcomes you to '茶の湯と漆芸 ~ The Arts of Lacquer ware for Chanoyu', an exhibition by Chado Urasenke Tankokai Singapore Association, one of the main schools of Japanese tea ceremony in Japan. Lacquer ware plays a key role in Chado, the Way of Tea. 16th century tea master SEN RIKYU refined the aesthetics of tea utensils contributing in technical sophistication of Japanese lacquer ware. This exhibition is first time in Singapore to showcase more than 50 important works ranging from Edo period to modern times, thanks to a private collector in Kyoto.
During the opening ceremony, Ms. Sochoku Nakabayashi, from Chado Urasenke Tankokai Singapore Association , will be giving a 30-minute talk on the 9000 years history of Lacquer ware. In particular, she will address how the Japanese have employed the characteristics of lacquer ware in Cha-no-yu.
After the talk, there will also be a guided tour by the members of Urasenke around the exhibition area in Japan Creative Centre.
