The Japan Creative Centre, Embassy of Japan and Namiki are proud to present a new showcase entitled: "Maki-e Art".
The aim of this showcase is to exhibit the rich history, folklore and beautiful nature of Japan as expressed through the millennium-old art of Maki-e. The Maki-e technique was developed mainly in the Heian Period (794-1185) and blossomed in the Edo Period (1603-1868). Initially designed as household items for court nobles, Maki-e objects soon gained more popularity and were adopted by royal families and military leaders as symbols of power.
Namiki will showcase some of its finest and most exclusive limited edition fountain pen collections, beautifully handcrafted by some of Japan’s esteemed Maki-e artisans.Highlights include masterpieces by legendary Namiki Maki-e artisan, Kyusai Yoshida, whose rare and brilliant works of art embrace the beauty of Japanese lacquer and traditional culture. Combining artistry with the most advanced technical features, each Namiki pen is hand-painted with pristine attention to detail. Discover the various Maki-e techniques behind each Namiki masterpiece.
For fine pen lovers and collectors, unravel Japan’s best kept secret with Namiki Nibs Specialist, Mr Atushi Takizawa from Japan who will be speaking at the talk and be present during the three days of showcase.
