Japan Creative Centre (JCC), Embassy of Japan in Singapore is proud to present a Japanese Sumi – Black Ink Art Painting Exhibition by Ms Nakatani Suisen. An award-winning Japanese calligrapher, Ms Nakatani was inspired by Kokotsu-bun (甲骨文) – a form of ancient Chinese hieroglyphic characters curved on animal’s bones or tortoise carapaces. In light of this year’s SJ50, enjoy a unique view of the world with black and white colours at JCC. |

Ms Suisen Nakatani, born 1946 in Kamakura, Kanagawa prefecture, is a Japanese calligrapher and Kokotsu-bun specialist who studied under renowned calligraphers Yamanaka Taisen, Kato Koho, and Tamura Kukoku. She has been devoting herself in conveying her own interpretation of Kokutsu-bun using black Sumi ink and white paper similar to ordinal calligraphy.
