Magical Journey
~ Little Charo in Tohoku ~

On 11th March, 2011, a mega earthquake and tsunami hit the northeastern Japan, leaving nearly 20,000 dead or missing. Many still remain evacuated from their hometowns as a result of the ensuing nuclear power plant accident. Since then Japan has made countless efforts in the way to recovery.

Japan Creative Centre (JCC) together with NHK Enterprises, Inc. will bring to you a series of TV documentaries reporting on the Japanese efforts to better tomorrow.

The screenings of recovery documentary series will take place every 11th of the month (excluding weekends) so as to symbolize the time that has passed since the disaster.

The first film was shown on 11th July, 2012.

This month, in conjunction with “Japan Travel Festival Tohoku & Kita-Kanto” which is organized by JNTO
(6 – 7 Oct, at Takashimaya), JCC will be showing an animated movie "Magical Journey ~ Little Charo in Tohoku ~".

Charo is a puppy character of NHK well-know animation series Little Charo. In this edition, Charo visit Tohoku region, an area which was severely hit by last year’s earthquake and tsunami. On his mission to save the world, Charo runs into Zashikiwarashi (Child spirit), Kappa (River goblin), Oni (Demon), Yuki-onna (Snow girl), Tanuki (Raccoon)- the characters of Japanese traditional folklore originated in Tohoku – to learn the importance of mutual companionship and friendship ties. The setting is placed within the natural beauty and scenery of well-known Matsushima, Tono, Osaki, Fukushima.

Let Charo takes you to a magical journey around Tohoku!
