~ IKEBANA~
INSPIRATIONS with Baba & Nyonya

© Ikebana

Japan Creative Centre is proud to present “Ikebana Inspired by Baba & Nyonya”, a flower exhibition. School of Ikebana will be showcasing up to 14 flower arrangements for this exhibition.

Setting itself apart from a normal exhibition, “Ikebana Inspired by Baba Nyonya” showcases traditional Japanese Ikebana blended into the local peranakan scene. This is exquisitely done through the showcase of flower arrangements on a traditional peranakan dining table set, complete with cutlery. In addition, the flower arrangements will incorporate local flowers which will add a Singapore spin on traditional Japanese arrangements.

About Riiji Bernard Tay

© Ikebana

Bernard Tay, a member of Tokyo Sogetsu Teachers Association (STA), a member of Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135, and the Advisor to the Singapore Sogetsu Association, has 39 years of experience in the art of Ikebana. Bernard discovered his love for flowers and his passion for floral art as a youth helping out at his relative’s floral shop.

This passion was further ignited when he embraced the art of Ikebana in the 1970’s, which provided him a platform for innovative expressions of his creative self. In 1983, Bernard was handpicked by Hiroshi Teshigahara, the first son of Sofu Teshigahara (founder of Sogetsu School), and the third lemoto of Sogetsu School, to assist Mr Hiroshi in his demonstrations in both Paris and London.

In 2011, Bernard was awarded the prestigious Silver Medal in the World Orchid Conference. In 2014, Bernard attained the highest grade in the Teacher’s Diploma of Sogetsu School and was made a Riji. Besides currently managing his floral shop, Bernard is actively involved in conducting workshops and demonstrations overseas.
