Japan Creative Centre is proud to present a lecture and demonstration by Ms. Chikage Terai on the Japanese Traditional Performing Arts 'NOH'. Ms. Chikage Terai is the daughter of Mr. Sakae Terai, a renowned NOH actor belonging to the Kanze school. The aim for this lecture and demonstration is to introduce NOH to a wider range of audience through history and movement.

'NOH' is a type of Japanese traditional performing arts. Ms. Chikage Terai is a NOH performer belonging to the Kanze school. She made her first stage apppearance when she was three years old, performing Shimai (short NOH dance without the mask). At the age of sixteen, she performed as Shite (the hero or heroine in the NOH play). She studied in Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and further her studies in Graduate School of Music in the same university. Currently, she holds a Master's Degree in Noh Theatre.
For this lecture and demonstration, Ms. Chikage Terai will be explaining on what NOH is all about, including the history of NOH, and also about the stage, costume and storyline. Ms. Chikage Terai will also be demonstrating the different ways of movement in NOH, giving the audience a clearer image on how NOH is performed.
