Japan Creative Centre (JCC), in collaboration with Singapore Science Centre, is pleased to present "JCC Astronaut's Talk: Reaching for the Stars" by renowned astronaut Mr. Soichi Noguchi from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). A veteran astronaut who had embarked on two space flights and spent 6 months in space, Mr. Noguchi will share his rich experiences with students in Singapore.

Mr. Noguchi flew on the space shuttle Discovery in 2005 and spent over 333 hours in space, including 20 hours of spacewalk. He set a record in Japanese human space flight history for the longest stay in space with his 177 days 3 hours 5 minutes of space flight. He is also know to have used Twitter to send photos from the space station to earth.

Mr. Noguchi will give us the rare glimpse of life on the space station, training he received as astronaut, and achievements of the space missions he participated. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to meet a real-life astronaut!

PROFILE OF SOICHI NOGUCHI

Soichi Noguchi was born in 1965 in Yokohama, Kanagawa. He received a master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1991. In April 2001, he was assigned as a crew member for the STS-114 (LF1) mission. STS-114 Discovery (July 26-August 9, 2005) was the Return to Flight mission during which the Shuttle docked with the International Space Station and the crew tested and evaluated new procedures for flight safety and Shuttle inspection and repair techniques.

In December 2009, he was launched to the ISS aboard the Soyuz TMA-17 (21S) from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. He spent 161 days aboard the ISS as a flight engineer for the Expedition 22/23 Mission, and returned to Earth in June 2010. In this mission, he logged a total of 163 days 5 hours 33 minutes in space counting the round-trip between the ground and the ISS.
