Grand Opening of One Tampines Hub.

Japan Creative Centre (JCC), Embassy of Japan in Singapore, was very proud to be part of the Grand Opening of One Tampines Hub (OTH) on 6 August 2017. The event was graced by Guest of Honour, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, People’s Association’s Deputy Chairman, Minister Chan Chun Sing, Minister Heng Swee Keat, Minister Masagos Zulkifli, Mayor Desmond Choo, Parliamentary Secretary Baey Yam Keng, Member of Parliament & Adviser for Tampines GROs Cheng Li Hui, Second Adviser for Tampines Central Sin Boon Ann, Advisory Board Chairman Mah Bow Tan, and People’s Association CED Desmond Tan. H.E. Ambassador Kenji Shinoda and Madam Yuko Shinoda were also proud to participate in this meaningful event.

OTH is Singapore’s first-ever integrated community and lifestyle hub that will bring together multiple agencies to offer a comprehensive and diverse range of services, programmes and facilities. This project was led by People’s Association and it is located at the former Tampines Stadium and Tampines Sports Hall.

Our booth featured a Japanese Calligraphy and Culture showcase. Our JCC Director Ms Akiko Sugita was also present to delight the public with her Japanese calligraphy skills. Our other JCC staff also taught Origami (a Japanese art of paper folding) and shared more information about Japan to many of the curious visitors.

As a promotional showcase for our upcoming calligraphy exhibition in October at the Luxe Art Museum, as well as calligraphy workshops at JCC, OTH, and Chua Chu Kang Community Club, we were pleased to feature famous calligraphy items all the way from Japan, with the help of J.CLAIR. These included "Sekishu-Banshi", paper made in the Iwami Region of Shimane Prefecture and an intangible heritage designated by UNESCO, and "Toyohashi Fude", top quality calligraphy brushes produced in Toyohashi City of Aichi Prefecture.
