Konnichiwa!
From participating in the numerous events last month, it was heartening to see how many people appreciate and enjoy Japanese culture, be it traditional culture or contemporary culture.
Speaking of which, I was honoured to have represented JCC in receiving the ‘Friends of Moulmein-Cairnhill’ award from Mr Melvin Yong, Adviser to Tanjong-Pagar GRC Grassroots Organisations and MP for Tanjong-Pagar GRC, during the Moulmein-Cairnhill 52nd National Day Celebrations Dinner on 5th August 2017. It feels wonderful to have our efforts acknowledged in this manner, and it truly gives us motivation to continue what we do at JCC.
I am also excited for our upcoming ‘Ceramic Expressions’ exhibition. These pottery exhibits showcase another facet of Japanese culture: contrast of mass and void in simplicity. So I do look forward to seeing the individual interpretations of this philosophy by Singapore-based ceramicists.
We will be holding JCC cinema screenings at Our Tampines Hub (OTH) once more. In fact this time, we will not screen just one – but two Japanese films! We hope that everyone will enjoy the two titles: ‘5 Centimeters Per Second’ and ‘Always -Sunset on Third Street- 3’. Moreover, we will be also specially screen ‘Kamome Diner’ in conjunction with Finland’s celebration of 100 years of independence. The theme of the centenary celebration year is ‘Together’, and in this spirit, we are delighted to screen this unique film on two occasions, starting from late September.
As you can see, September will be a festival of Japanese film screenings. So be sure to keep an eye out for our announcements on our website and Facebook!
See you soon!
