Our Japanese Film Festival 2025 officially started with a spectacular opening ceremony on 1 October 2025 at Golden Village VivoCity, featuring the Singapore premiere of Renoir, a Palme d'Or-nominated film with Singaporean participation and support from the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA).

The opening welcomed nearly 500 guests. H.E. Ambassador Ishikawa Hiroshi and Mr Kenneth Tan, Chairman of the Singapore Film Society delivered opening speeches to mark the occasion. Ms Yvonne Tang, Assistant Chief Executive of IMDA’s Media Industry Group also graced the opening as our Guest-of-Honour, alongside Renoir’s film director Ms Hayakawa Chie, who flew in specially from Japan to attend the premiere in person.

Following the screening, an insightful Q&A session was moderated by this year’s JFF Programmer Mr Deepagcharan Chandran, featuring Ms Hayakawa and the film’s Director of Photography Mr Urata Hideho. The session offered the audience a rare glimpse into the film’s inspiration, creative process and production journey.
