A lecture on the future of housing: creating comfortable and safety homes with new technologies was conducted at JCC (Japan Creative Centre) on Friday, 13 October 2017 in collaboration with Daiwa House Malaysia. A total of three speakers – Mr Daisuke Usugi of its Managing Director, Mr Akihito Kawahara, Branch Manager of Daiken Corporation Singapore, as well as Mr Tan Jia Wei, Product Manager at RHB Bank.

The first speaker, Mr Daisuke Usugi of Daiwa House, presented the latest Japanese housing technology focusing on comfortably and safety using Sakura Residence – the first prefabricated house in Malaysia as a case study. He mentioned 4 areas – Firstly, how the defects are lesser being manufactured off-site in advance under stable environment, by regular workers and with idea working posture that are able to achieve higher quality control. Secondly, a fully sealed home that are heat and sound insulated that can keep comfortable indoor environment resulting in energy saving, prevention of condensation and increase durability.

Thirdly, a friendly design home that is suitable for all kinds of ages with the philosophy of convenience, simplicity, safety and beauty such as gentle slopes, insect screen, family switch and finger safe door. And lastly, focusing on space utilisation using tatami box, kitchen smart storage system, moveable bed and laundry chute. In addition, Mr Usugi also talked about the development of Sunway Iskandar in Malaysia, as well as the tranquility of living in Japan.

Following which, Mr Akihito Kawahara of Daiken Corporation complemented the talk by sharing two of their products used in housing – Tatami mats for its durability, UV proof, water repellent, specifications and colour variations which is made of traditional Japanese paper (Washi), instead of the traditional ones that are made of wheat, as well as wall panels with Sarari-Art that is an interior wall panel capable of control humidity and deodorise to maintain a comfortable room. Lastly, Mr Tan Jia Wei of RHB Bank mentioned about the importance and ways to obtain property and achieve retirement.

There were also panels featuring construction processes, as well as structures and house models by Daiwa House and Daiken Corporation, where guests were able to have first-hand experience and understand their houses and products. The lecture ended with light refreshments where many continued to stay and interact with the speakers and their staffs.
