Digital artists wataboku and Muju Monster spoke to a full house of audience members on Saturday, 21 April 2018. This talk was part of the ongoing exhibition, 感0 – KANZERO - An Exhibition by wataboku. The curator, Mr Yoichi Nakamuta interpreted for wataboku, who spoke about his background, and how he came to be known as the artist wataboku. He spoke in length about what inspired the theme of the exhibition, and how that is seen through his artworks. The audience was shown a tutorial of how he creates his art piece; 15 hours worth of drawing was sped up and condensed into a 3 minute video to show the audience the various steps taken to create a digital art piece.

Following which, Muju Monster gave a talk that was much more focused on the possible career paths of aspiring digital artists. As a seasoned artist, he gave advice on both being a freelance artist, as well as being an artist that worked for a large company. He highlighted differences, similarities, and also strategies that young artists could learn to prepare themselves for working life as a digital artist.

This talk event was attended by many youths, who indicated that they were interested in someday working in the same industry as wataboku and Muju Monster. They asked many questions about the artists’ lifestyle, drawing and colouring techniques, and the inspiration for their artworks.

After the end of the talk event, many of the audience members stayed behind to get wataboku and Muju Monster’s signatures. Many also took photographs with wataboku, who took time to speak to each audience member personally. Muju Monster also had a fair share of aspiring young digital artists speak to him, and ask him for advice. Both artists were patient in answering everyone’s questions, and provided much encouragement for the youth.
