JCC presented a fun onigiri demonstration at Tampines West Community Club’s Silver Jubilee Open House on Saturday, 21 April 2018. The demonstration was led by Ms Reiko Yamada, an accomplished chef and cookbook author, who has authored two books on traditional Japanese homecooking and onigiri. Ms Yamada explained to the participants what onigiri were and how they are made. She also introduced information about miso soup to them and taught them how to make dashi, a key ingredient of miso soup.
|
Participants had the chance to make their own onigiri and were able to take three different types of onigiri home. One was an edamame and konbu onigiri, another was a shake and black sesame onigiri, and lastly, a uniquely Singaporean ginger sauce and chilli sauce onigiri. Minister Masagos Zulkifli also had a hand in trying to make his own onigiri.
