Director's Message

Konnichiwa!

The gentle atmosphere of late spring is now slowly transitioning into the warm weather of early summer, and I am excited to share with you all the fun programmes that JCC will be presenting this month!

April was yet another fulfilling month as JCC was able to reach out to a wide audience of people through outreach activities at the Sakura Matsuri at Gardens By The Bay, Tampines West Community Club, as well as Wisma Atria. We are so grateful for everyone who came up and spoke to us at our booth at the Sakura Japan Fair at the Sakura Matsuri, where we met not only Singaporeans but visitors from around the world; and also those who participated in our onigiri workshop at Tampines West, in conjunction with their Silver Jubilee celebrations; and character onigiri contest at Wisma Atria, where many children and adults took part in making creative onigiri. We hope that you have gained a better understanding of Japanese culture through these events. We hope to participate in more of such outreach activities and create fun opportunities for Singaporeans to learn more about Japanese culture.

April also saw JCC presenting two very new and innovative programmes, one being A TAKEMITSU SEASON: The Spring Soiree, an interactive dance-theatre performance, and the other being 感0 – KANZERO - An Exhibition by wataboku, a digital art exhibition. These programmes, which featured contemporary themes and mediums of art, were very much in line with JCC’s commitment to showcasing innovation, and certainly electrified our audiences.

As May approaches, here at JCC we will be bringing you programmes that will prepare you for the warmer weather of summer! Cool down with mesmerising floral displays at an Ikebana International exhibition at Paragon Shopping Centre, and enjoy an afternoon with family and friends at JCC Cinema. Learn more about the island of Shodoshima, and the olives that they are famous for!

We are so excited to bring these programmes to you this month, so do stay updated with our upcoming activities by looking out on our website and Facebook page! All of us here at JCC look forward to seeing you at our events soon!
