Overview

We were pleased to welcome visitors at JCC to “Spring Blossoms ~An Exhibition by Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 in special collaboration with NAKED, INC. ~”, against the backdrop of beautiful physical and virtual floral creations. Though Singapore does not have four seasons, this exhibition certainly brought the delights of spring to everyone.

For this month, please enjoy reading about the unique architecture of Japanese castles and the intriguing evolution of the karaoke machine. We were also happy to be able to interview Namiko Sakai, Founder and Managing Director of Hibikiya.

Konnichiwa!

February marked the transition of winter into spring. In Japan, early spring flowers like plum and peach blossoms start to bloom. While there are no blossoms heralding the arrival of spring here in Singapore, I was happy to be able to celebrate the Lunar New Year here. There were many delicious treats and unique dishes like yusheng that I was able to try for the first time! Spring is definitely in the air at JCC, where we hosted “Spring Blossoms ~An Exhibition by Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 in special collaboration with NAKED, INC. ~”. Online Demonstration Workshop of "Spring Blossoms"

As part of Spring Blossoms ~ An Exhibition by Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 and in special collaboration with NAKED, Inc ~, an online demonstration workshop by Dr Leonard Lim, President of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society Singapore Chapter, was held on Saturday, 27 February 2020. Dr Leonard Lim did a total of three demonstrations, including his creation for the exhibition. He used sakura for one of his creations, and the sakura flowers are currently in full bloom here at JCC! Launch of Sakura floral display featuring Hello Kitty

H.E. Ambassador Jun Yamazaki, together with Professor Tommy Koh, attended the launch of Sakura floral display featuring Hello Kitty at Gardens By The Bay (GBTB), Flower Dome, on 1 March. Mr Niam Chiang Meng (Chairman of Board of Directors, GBTB) and Mr Felix Loh (CEO, GBTB) were the hosts. They were greeted by the dynamic taiko and shamisen performance by Hibikiya. Hina Matsuri

March 3 is Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival or Girls' Festival), when people pray for the happiness and healthy growth of girls. Families with young daughters mark this day by setting up a display of dolls inside the house. They offer rice crackers and other food to the dolls.
