About Ikebana

Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, is a subtle, sensitive and sophisticated art form having a recorded history from many centuries. It is steeped in the philosophy of developing proximity with nature. Ikebana is a form of art similar to painting and sculpture. The artist expresses his/her creativity by using the medium of natural floral materials and containers. The fundamentals of Ikebana are as relevant today as they were centuries ago, but the art form has evolved to suit the modern society

About Ikebana International

Ikebana International (I.I.) is a non-profit cultural organisation headquartered in Tokyo, and is dedicated to the promotion and appreciation of Ikebana. Founded in 1956 by the late Ellen Gordon Allen, with a dream to create an organisation uniting the people of the world through their mutual love of nature and enjoyment of Ikebana, I.I. currently has presence in over 50 countries, with 161 Chapters and membership of approximately 7600 people. It is inspired by its motto "Friendship through flowers".

Ikebana International Singapore Chapter 135 was founded in 1969 by Lady Bette De La Mare, wife of the then British High Commissioner to Singapore. The Chapter has since then actively contributed to the learning, appreciation and promotion of the art of Ikebana in Singapore and the region. The Chapter members come from various schools of Ikebana such as Ikenobo, Sogetsu, Ohara, Ichiyo, Ryusei-ha, Souami and Kozan. Monthly events organised by the Chapter offer the members and Ikebana lovers, a platform for interaction and learning. Over the years, the Chapter has also raised funds through this beautiful art form and donated to many charitable causes both locally and internationally.

FLOWERS BY NAKED is a series of immersive, experiential art exhibitions designed, planned, and produced by NAKED, INC.. Since 2016, the project has been held in numerous cities such as Tokyo, Kyoto, and Hong Kong. January 2020 marked the fifth year of the event held at Nihonbashi, and in April, a first-ever collaboration alongside real cherry blossoms at World Heritage Site Nijo-jo Castle. The latter was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and instead inspired the NAKED, INC. VR series which brings the immersive FLOWERS experience to people’s homes. Over 80,000 posts can be found under the hashtag #flowersbynaked on Instagram from audiences that have partaken in the experience over the years.

NAKED, INC. is a creative company founded by Ryotaro Muramatsu in 1997. Pursuing the philosophy of “Core Creative, Total Creation, and Borderless Creativity”, the company has presented works throughout the years in television, music videos, advertisements, spatial presentation, local community revitalization, and education programs. Recent undertakings include the network art initiative “Breath / Bless Project” that connects cities around the world, development of AR/VR products, and innovations that transcend the traditional integration of online and offline experiences. NAKED, INC. continues to create new experiences and values throughout various scenes in people’s lives, spanning from art and entertainment to culture, tradition, education, music, cities, food, sports, and more.

Notable works include the floral-themed immersive art exhibit “FLOWERS BY NAKED”, art-in-sauna experience “NAKED SAUNA”, virtual tour guide “NAKED SAMURAI”, AI music production system “HUMANOID DJ”, interactive art and gastronomy restaurant “TREE by NAKED yoyogi park”, and more.

In Singapore last November, NAKED, INC. showcased CEO Ryotaro Muramatsu’s global network art initiative Breath / Bless Project at Gardens by the Bay. Muramatsu’s installation “Dandelion” was displayed for a week, connecting Singapore with other participating installation locations in Japan. The project was featured in numerous major media outlets, including The Strait Times in Singapore.
