Super Rugby Night, in support of Sunwolves

Super Rugby Night!, a reception in support of Sunwolves was held at the Japanese Association, Singapore on Wednesday, 1st March 2017. Jointly hosted by the JCC (Japan Creative Centre), Embassy of Japan in Singapore, Singapore Sports Hub in cooperation with Sunwolves Super Rugby Japan, more than 200 guests graced the occasion and cheered for Superwolves – the Japanese team which will be playing at the upcoming Super Rugby 2017 championship at National Stadium, Singapore.

H.E. Ambassador Kenji Shinoda and Mr Manu Sawhney, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Sports Hub, welcomed the guests with opening remarks that touched not only on sports and rugby, but also the close ties that Japan and Singapore shares. Following which, Mr Low Teo Ping, President of Singapore Rugby Union, joined in on stage and proposed a toast to all the guests for this celebratory occasion.

A special cheer performance dedicated to Sunwolves by Albirex Singapore Cheer Dance School.
A special cheer performance dedicated to Sunwolves was also put up by the young and vibrant members of the Albirex Singapore Cheer Dance School. Led by Head Coach Mr Filo Tiatia, coaches and players of Sunwolves later marched onto the stage one by one and were introduced to all the guests at the reception. Mr Tiatia also shared about his ambition for the upcoming games, followed by Mr Yuuji Watase, Chief Executive Officer of Japan Super Rugby Association (JRSA), who introduced about Super Rugby and Sunwolves. JRSA is the organisation that is managing the team.

Super Rugby is one of the world’s greatest rugby championship held annually between teams from Argentina, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa. Three matches will be taking place in Singapore at the National Stadium, where Sunwolves will be battling with teams from Singapore and South Africa on 4th March, 25th March and 20th May. In 2019, Rugby World Cup will be held in Japan!
