Chingay Parade 2017

Chingay Parade 2017, which was organised by the People's Association, took place over two days from 10-11 February at F1 Pit Building. H.E. Ambassador Kenji Shinoda and Madam Yuko Shinoda joined the two-day celebration alongside JCC (Japan Creative Centre) staff, together as The Japanese Association, Singapore contingent.

Since 1973, the annual Chingay Parade has been held to celebrate Chinese New Year. The theme for this year was "Soundwaves Chingay, WeCare Singapore". A total of 50 teams from 2,000 organisations and 8,000 performers, came together for a spectacular multi-ethnic parade. Besides stunning water, fire, snow and lighting effects, there were also brilliant displays of pyrotechnics and fireworks.

This year marked the 15th straight year of the Japanese Association's participation in the event, and over 400 people put up a performance of Soran Bushi, the fishermen song of Hokkaidō. There were a total of 7 segments in the parade, and the contingent took part in the third segment "WeCare for the present - friends all over the world" which featured exciting performances from Yakutia, Cambodia, Indonesia and South Korea as well.
