Konnichiwa!
My name is Sugita Akiko and I am pleased to take up my new position as the Director of Japan Creative Centre and Counsellor at the Embassy of Japan in Singapore!
Having just arrived in Singapore, I am assured that this country is indeed how I heard many of my colleagues describe, a beautiful garden city. What attracts me the most to this wonderful nation is the multi-cultural features; People from various backgrounds and cultural heritage are living in harmony, respecting each other, creating diverse and innovative art and dynamic experiences. I cannot wait to unveil more in the near future.
My previous post at Foreign Press Center Japan in Tokyo was fulfilling work, helping foreign press to cover various aspects of Japan and to report it through their respective media. In a sense, it is connected to what I am going to fulfil at JCC, disseminating information about Japan to Singapore and beyond.
This July, we have an array of events lined up, from our JENESYS 2016 Exhibition, Yukata workshop, Ishikawa Prefecture Exhibition to an exciting Lego Exhibition, which is a first for me. I am extremely excited to be in Singapore, as I have also heard that Japanese tradition & innovation, anime and science & technology, amongst others, are very popular with Singaporeans. I hope that this genuine interest in Japan will lead to promoting even closer friendship and dynamic interaction between our two countries.
I am committed to building upon my predecessors’ great accomplishments to continue showcasing Japan’s ‘now’ to everyone who visits JCC. I sincerely look forward to learning more about this country as well as meeting all of our Friends of JCC at our centre!
See you soon!
