JCC (Japan Creative Centre) took part and presented a Manga Drawing Workshop at Temasek Polytechnic (TP) Global Community Day on Friday, 6 July 2018. Global Community Day is an annual event organised by TP to promote global awareness, country engagement and integration amongst staff, students, local community and global partners. This year’s main theme was ‘sAme SamE And differeNt’, which aimed to celebrate the cultural unity and diversity of ASEAN countries in light of Singapore’s chairmanship of ASEAN.

The workshop was conducted by Mr Lim Cheng Tju, a comic reviewer and educator, together with Ms Foo Swee Chin, a comic artist, illustrator and mangaka. They firstly introduced about Japanese manga with a short explanation of its styles, characteristics and history which made it a global cultural and economic phenomenon today, followed by a basic hands-on drawing and sketching of manga. More than 40 staff and students from TP, as well as both local and international schools participated in the workshop that was held in 2 sessions.
