Japan Creative Centre was proud to be part of Global Community Day 2016 held at Temasek Polytechnic on 14th July 2016. Grand Master of Reitoku Kai, Mr Naya Reitoku was invited to give the students an introduction into the world of traditional Japanese dance. After sharing about the history of Japanese dance, Mr Naya demonstrated various dance styles such as 'Kuroda Bushi' and 'Nasu to Kabocha' and lastly the students also got a chance to learn and even performed 'Dai Tokyou Ondo' a popular Bon Odori dance (summer festival dance in Japan) during the event closing. |
The Global Community Day is an annual event organized by Temasek Polytechnic. Held at the Glocal Community Village, Global Community Day brings international and local students together through cultural celebration and at the same time providing an opportunity for them to experience various cultures. This year apart from the Embassy of Japan, representatives from Belgium, Egypt, Italy, India, Kazakhstan, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and so on were also invited to add colour and diversity to this event.

Mr Naya Reitoku has been involved in Japanese dance since 1988 and has attained the rank of Grand Master. He formed the Japanese dance group Reitoku Kai in 1996 and the group has been actively promoting Japanese Culture through dance and yukata/kimono dressing in Singapore since it’s forming.
In conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Singapore and Japan (SJ50), the members of Reitoku Kai also collaborated with Akifusa Ryu from Japan and held two Japanese dance performances on 30 and 31 July at the Japan Creative Centre and the Japanese Association respectively. |
