Konnichiwa!
JCC wishes Singapore a Happy 51st Birthday!
August in Japan reunites our ancestor’s spirits to their loved ones at home. We celebrate the reunion by appreciating our well-being and wishing for the coming season of good harvest. The celebration is hardly quiet given the solemn connotations of the departed. However, the month is honoured by putting together a ‘Bon Festival’ and performing a Bon dance to music with loud relentless beats, making the occasion a one that is merry.
I have to say that people in Singapore are indeed lucky as they will have the opportunity to experience an exciting 'Summer Festival 2016', held at the Japanese Primary School, Changi Campus on 20th August. To those who have participated in the Glocal Community Day event presented by JCC at Temasek Polytechnic on 14th July, you probably have mastered the Bon dance. Furthermore, if you are attending our Yukata Workshop at JCC on 13th August, you will master the art of our traditional costume. To showcase these Japanese summer rituals, please join us for the much anticipated Summer Festival 2016!
In addition, we will be presenting the biggest festival event of the year, ‘SJ50 Matsuri’ on 29th and 30th October to celebrate the joyous affair of SJ50 in Singapore! Filled with fascinating Japanese brands, attractions, cultural performances, food and travel information, hitting the mark for Singaporeans who are known global travelers, the festival will even feature a must-see ‘ODORI’(dance), so do join us! Keep your eyes peeled for updated information on our SJ50 Matsuri website, it will be a once in a lifetime experience for you and your loved ones!
See you soon!
