On 2 March, JCC hosted a two-part lecture titled "Prevention and Treatment of Diabetes - Live a long life with Hemodialysis -".
Dr Maeda Atsuhiro, Nephrologist and Vice Director of Maeda Hospital in Japan, discussed nocturnal dialysis, which is available in major cities in Japan and offered at the Maeda Medical Clinic here in Singapore. He also shared statistics on the life expectancy of Japanese dialysis patients, which surpasses that of patients in some other countries and provided his interpretation of these findings.
Meanwhile Dr Behram A. Khan presented on how diabetes can lead to chronic kidney disease, which is indeed a rising health concern in Singapore. While diabetes is an irreversible condition, he mentioned how leading a healthy lifestyle can manage the disease.
The audience members asked interesting questions about diabetes and nocturnal dialysis during the Q&A. It was a very informative session on a treatment option from Japanese medical care to all attendees.
