On 1st August 2012, a Farewell Reception was held for Singaporean JET participants at the Japanese Association in Singapore. Other than the new JET participants, members of JET Alumni Association, vice-principals and teachers of Japanese Schools in Singapore, and staff of CLAIR Singapore also attended the Reception.
At the Reception, Minister Yamamoto said that the importance of responsibility of the Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) has been raised amid globalization. He also expressed his hope that the JET participants will contribute to cultural aspect as a bridge between Singapore and Japan.
The number of new Singaporean JET participants for this year’s batch is 23. They will be posted to 17 local governments in Japan as ALTs.
