A commemoration ceremony of the first anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake (Report)


 
  On 10th March 2012, the Embassy of Japan, together with the Japanese Association and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry held a memorial service for the victims of the 3.11 Great East Japan Earthquake, on the 1st anniversary of the disaster.



At the memorial service, a moment of silence was observed and addresses were made by Ambassador Yoichi Suzuki, Mr Kenji Yasuno, President of the Japanese Association, and the Guest of Honour, H.E. Mr K. Shanmugam, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Singapore. A wreath laying ceremony by Ambassador Suzuki, H.E. Mr K. Shanmugam, Mr Yasuno and Mr Ikuno, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry was also conducted.





After the memorial service, a reception was held to express our appreciation for the support from Singapore and with the intention to appeal on the recovery of the affected area.



Representatives of different organizations and other personalities who have led the Singaporean drive to help Japan were invited to the reception. The Singapore Red Cross made a presentation on Singapore’s activities related to the reconstruction. Tourism and delicacies of the Tohoku region were also promoted.
