Step into the world of shogi with professional shogi player Mr Hirotaka Nozuki, ranked 8-dan, here at Japan Creative Centre (JCC), in a rare event of shogi talk and practice game.

Those who are new to shogi, or Japanese chess, can learn from the talk that explains the basics of shogi, and its game. Those who already have prior knowledge and experience will have the rare opportunity to play a practice game with experienced shogi players, including Mr Nozuki. Do not miss this chance to experience the thrills of shogi!

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Mr Hirotaka Nozuki is a Japanese professional shogi player, ranked 8-dan, who was born in Kita-ku, Sapporo on July 4, 1973. He won the 10th Elementary School Student Meijin Tournament in 1985, and the same year he entered the Japan Shogi Association's apprentice school at the rank of 6-kyū as a student of shogi professional Osamu Katsūra.

Following which, he was promoted to the rank of 1-dan in 1991 and obtained full professional status and the rank of 4-dan in October 1996. He later won two non-major shogi championships during his career – the 17th Hayazashi Shinei-sen (1998) and the 19th All Star Kachinuki-sen (1998–99).
