Japan Creative Centre (JCC)

Join us at Japan Creative Centre (JCC) for a recital of traditional Japanese musical instruments, shamisen and kotsuzumi. Ms Kineie Nami and Ms Sakurama Ro Kyeong Soon make their return to JCC with a repertoire of traditional and pop songs alongside support by Mr Naya Reitoku. They will be performing a mixture of traditional compositions and anime songs, with some of the pieces being accompanied by Japanese dances performed by the Reitokukai Japanese Dance Group. Some of the audience members will also get to try their hand at playing the instruments at the end of the performance under the guidance of the artists.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Ms Kineie Nami graduated from Tokyo University of the Performing Arts, Department of Japanese Music. She is active as a Nagauta shamisen and contemporary Japanese music shamisen player. Currently, she is a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Education, Bunkyo University, a part-time lecturer at Toho Gakuen Junior College of Arts, a Commissioner of Nagauta Kineie-ryu, a member of the Nippon Ongaku Ensemble, as well as the director of Nami-kai.

She has participated in 9 overseas performances as a member of the Japan Music Group, and performed in over 14 countries. Individually, she premiered in a solo shamisen and string quartet performance in New York, in May 2012. She has also played the electric shamisen on musical stages and in band performances, as well as actively engages in live performances at various venues.

She is well-known for having played shamisen for a number of Vocaloid songs, including Senbon Zakura. In recent years, she has been posting videos of both traditional and contemporary covers on YouTube, and is focusing on promoting traditional music to younger generations.

She strives to popularise Japanese traditional music through organising "Tsuzumi no Kai" and "Ginza Kotsuzumi Classroom", and has performed music for dramas like "Gannibal", "AVATAR", and at concerts for the popular game "Genshin Impact". She has given performances and workshops at elementary and junior high schools across Japan, and has performed overseas in countries such as Russia, China, Malaysia, South Korea, and Denmark.
