ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

© Takuji Horie

Mr. Takuji Horie is the Chairman and CEO of HORIE Co. Since its founding, their company has focused the majority of its efforts on technological and engineering development. In 1988, HORIE encountered titanium while studying the behaviours of different metallic elements, and soon started exploring the metal's potential. Today, HORIE products are highly regarded, and their development has spread into a wide range of fields. They continue to study titanium from a variety of perspectives and thrive to make unique products that can only be produced by HOIRE.

© Shinji Kasahara

Mr. Shinji Kasahara began working for TSUBOE Co. in 1993 and became President and Representative Director in 2010. Their business engaged in the large-scale manufacturing of "graters" made of difficult-to-process materials like titanium and stainless steel. TSUBOE was able to apply HON-MEZE-GEKKE, which could only be applied to copper, on difficult-to-machine metals like stainless steel and titanium by exactly grasping and strictly quantifying the machining conditions. Additionally, they also developed a technique to apply Hon-Me-Zukuri to curved surfaces in addition to flat surfaces.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Since the Asuka era in Japan and the Egyptian era in the West, people have been captivated by fragrance. One theory holds that Cleopatra used fragrance to attract and rule over the world's generals during the Egyptian period. In Japan as well, it is said that during the Warring States era, generals used fragrance to regulate their spirits, and fragrant woods are used in shrines and temples to purify and control the spirit.

The workshop will not only allow one to glimpse into the mysterious and fascinating world of incense, but also to smell the aroma of Japanese wood, Western herbs, and other scents.
