Join us for an exclusive and unforgettable experience by Japan Creative Centre (JCC), JETRO Singapore and Tohoku Economic Federation to appreciate the unique flavours of Japanese rice from Tohoku area. Participants will not only enjoy onigiri workshops, but also have the opportunity to try out 7 different varieties and textures of Japanese rice and experience a symphony of flavours with Japanese curry and other delicacies.

  • Greetings by Japan Creative Centre (JCC)

  • Presentation of Japanese rice by five-star rice meister Mr Katayama Shinichi

  • Japanese onigiri (riceball) workshop

  • Tasting of different Japanese rice varieties and curry

Please inform us at least 3 days before the event if you and/or your accompanying guest are unable to make it. No-show registrants will be noted and be given lower priority for our future events. Registration will start 30 minutes before each of the session.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Mr Shinichi Katayama is the president and the fifth generation of Sumidaya, a rice merchant established in 1905. Well-versed in rice from all over Japan, he creates mellow, fragrant, and flavourful rice by using his excellent blending techniques and the original technique of traditional rice milling. He is committed to passing on rice cooking techniques, and holds rice cooking classes not only in Japan, but also in other regions globally. He also has an extensive knowledge of high-end rice cookers for consumer use and is well-known for his impressions of new models released each year. He is a certified five-star rice master (Japan Rice Retailers Association), and has been featured in major televisions, newspapers, magazines, and many other media.
