Japan Creative Centre (JCC), Embassy of Japan in Singapore and JETRO Singapore, are thrilled to welcome you to join us for an exclusive and unforgettable experience to understand the history and appreciate the unique flavours of Japanese rice. A total of 7 different varieties of Japanese rice from Akita, Hokkaido, Kochi, Nagano, and Tochigi prefectures will be featured at the event. Participants will also have the opportunity to taste and compare Japanese rice in their original flavours, as well as in Singaporean cuisines that are prepared using these delicious Japanese rice.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Mr. Shinichi Katayama is the president and the fifth generation of Sumidaya, a rice merchant established in 1905. Well-versed in rice from all over Japan, he creates mellow, fragrant, and flavourful rice by using his excellent blending techniques and the original technique of traditional rice milling. He is committed to passing on rice cooking techniques, and holds rice cooking classes not only in Japan, but also in other regions globally. He also has an extensive knowledge of high-end rice cookers for consumer use and is well-known for his impressions of new models released each year. He is a certified five-star rice master (Japan Rice Retailers Association), and has been featured in major televisions, newspapers, magazines, and many other media.

Ms. Marie Akizawa is the sixth generation of Yamadaya Honten, a rice merchant established in 1905. After graduating from university, she started her career at a brewing company in Gifu. She later studied in Europe and joined Yamada Honten in 2015. As a sales planning manager, she actively visits rice farmers all over Japan while managing her business at two stores in Tokyo - the flagship store in Chofu and "Ginza Yoneya Hikotaro" at Ginza Mitsukoshi department store. Since 2018, she has been an organiser of "OKOME COLLECTION", an event at Ginza Mitsukoshi in Tokyo which brings together young generations of Japanese rice brands and young producers. She is a certified five-star rice master (Japan Rice Retailers Association) and rice taste appraiser (Japan Rice Millers Association).
