The Japan Creative Centre (JCC), Embassy of Japan is proud to present 'Relevance of Yayoi Kusama’s Art Today', a talk on Yayoi Kusama by Mr Reuben Keehan. In this talk, he will discuss why the work of Yayoi Kusama is so relevant today, as he explains the dazzling popularity of her art, both in the art world and beyond. This curatorial conversation will consider these questions, and investigate their wider implications within culture today. About the Speaker

Based in Brisbane, Australia, Mr Reuben Keehan has been a curator of Contemporary Asian Art at the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) since 2011. At QAGOMA, he has been part of the core curatorial team for the 2012, 2015 and 2018 editions of the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT), and the curator of exhibitions including ‘We can make another future: Japanese art after 1989’ (2014) and ‘Yayoi Kusama: Look Now, See Forever’ (2011).

He was also a co-curator of ‘Time of others’, an evolving collaboration between the Museum of Contemporary, Tokyo, National Museum of Art, Osaka, Singapore Art Museum and QAGOMA (2015-2016), as well as co-curator of ‘Out of Doubt: Roppongi Crossing 2013’ at the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo. From 2006 to 2011, he was a curator at Artspace, Sydney, where he produced dozens of artist projects, exhibitions, discussion programmes and publications. This is prior to which he had held curatorial roles at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art and Australian Centre for Photography.
