The Japan Creative Centre (JCC), Embassy of Japan in Singapore, and Ishikawa Prefecture are proud to present an exhibition entitled "Re-imagining Ishikawa’s Traditional Crafts". Japanese traditional crafts are well-recognised for its aesthetic designs and delicate craftsmanship. However, what is considered in style and contemporary is constantly changing with time. This exhibition will showcase how Ishikawa's traditional craftsmen adapt their craft in the modern era, while continuing to showcase their refined skills.

Ishikawa’s traditional craftsmen are adapting their craft to fit into the modern space, while keeping intact what makes them traditional.

In order to keep Japanese traditional crafts relevant in the modern age, shape and form have to be updated to suit contemporary sensibilities. Imagine lacquerware, traditionally used for tableware, being incorporated into modern lampshades. Or Japanese washi paper being used as wallpaper. Come and see this re-imagining of the contemporary yet classic in this exhibition, which demonstrates the endless possibilities that Ishikawa’s traditional crafts possess.

We will also display panels which introduce Ishikawa's traditional dance culture, so as to share the depth and richness of Ishikawa culture.
