Histoire Raconté – Storytelling with live music
and visual presentation

Bunraku, its charm and background

25 & 26 September 2019

The Japanese Assocation, Singapore & Japan Creative Centre

Histoire Raconté "Bunraku, its charm and background" is an event by Tomoyo Kurimoto, Research Institute for Culture, Energy and Life, Osaka Gas, which tells the story of a Bunraku town, its history, culture and future prospect, with live music and visual presentation. It enables the local community to become more aware of their hometown’s charm, and enhances their affection towards it.

Tomoyo Kurimoto will introduce you to Bunraku and its cradled town Osaka. She will tell the story about a famous ‘Die for Love’ incident that took place 300 years ago in Edo era, together with Mayumi Miyakawa, the conductor/pianist, and Minami, the Japanese bamboo flute player.

Bunraku is a traditional performing art which dates back to the 16th Century in Osaka, and combines narration, music and puppetry. It was designated as a UNESCO World Intangible Heritage in 2003. This is an introduction event to the first ever Bunraku performance in Singapore, which will be held on 23 October 2019 at Drama Centre Theatre. So do join us for this story-telling with live music and visual presentation, to better appreciate the charm and background of Bunraku!
