Uncover the leading cause of tooth loss in adults in this lecture by Professor Emeritus of Osaka University Graduate School of Dentistry, Prof. Shinya Murakami!
Periodontal disease (Gum disease) is described in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most widespread infectious disease in the world. It is a condition in which the bacterial biofilm in the oral cavity causes chronic inflammation, leading to the progressive destruction of the gums and alveolar bone that support the teeth. Most recently, research reveals that periodontal disease not only compromises oral and dental health, but also serves as a risk factor for a variety of systemic diseases, such as diabetes and Alzheimer's disease. Hence, the prevention and early treatment of periodontal disease are crucial for maintaining a healthy life.
In this lecture organised by Japan Creative Centre (JCC) and supported by Sunstar Singapore, Prof. Shinya Murakami will provide an overview of methods for preventing periodontal disease, as well as state-of-the-art treatment options that Japan offers, including regenerative therapies.
